About Boker Knives

A chestnut tree towers above the Boker family's hardware factory in the 17th century, and that chestnut tree would eventually become a lasting emblem for the world-renowned Boker Knife Manufactory.

In 1829, during a time of political turmoil, brothers Hermann and Robert Boker began producing sabers, quickly ramping up to 2,000 pieces a week. To grow their reach, Hermann moved to the U.S. to establish Boker & Co. in New York, while Robert expanded to Canada and Mexico, now known as Casa Boker.

Their cousin Heinrich stayed closer to home, heading to Solingen, Germany—the "City of Blades"—and founded Heinr. Boker & Co. in 1869. The chestnut tree became their logo, representing quality worldwide. Despite the destruction of the Solingen factory during World War II, Boker rebuilt and kept its tradition alive.

Today, Boker continues to craft high-quality knives, from tactical and outdoor models to collector’s items. Boker Manufactory Solingen remains rooted in the "City of Blades," and with Boker USA in Denver and Boker Arbolito in Argentina, Boker maintains a solid presence in North and South America.

Boker's guarantee: Exceptional quality manufacturing

Boker’s commitment to quality has lasted for over a century and remains strong. Their knives are more than just tools—they’re crafted with precision and care, using top-notch materials and skilled craftsmanship to ensure they're built to last.

Here's a list of materials Boker commonly uses:

Blade materials

  • Stainless steel (e.g., 440C, 154CM, VG-10): Resistant to rust and easy to maintain. Ideal for everyday carry (EDC) and outdoor knives.

  • High-carbon steel (e.g., 1095, D2): Offers excellent edge retention and hardness but requires more maintenance to prevent rust. Commonly used in outdoor and survival knives.

  • Damascus steel: Layered steel known for its distinctive wavy patterns, blending performance with aesthetic appeal. Often found in high-end and collector's knives.

  • N690: A high-quality Bohler stainless steel, suitable for outdoor and tactical knives that need to perform in tough conditions.

  • S35VN: A premium stainless steel often found in high-end and heavy-use knives.

  • AUS-8: A Japanese stainless steel that balances toughness, edge retention, and ease of sharpening. A popular choice for EDC and outdoor knives.

Handle materials

  • Micarta: A durable, resin-infused material valued for its textured grip and resistance to moisture and temperature changes.

  • G-10: A tough, fiberglass-based laminate that provides a secure and reliable grip, even in challenging conditions.

  • Wood (e.g., ebony, olive wood, Cocobolo): Often used in Boker's traditional and hunting knives, offering a classic, natural look and feel.

  • Stag antler: Known for its rugged, natural texture and unique appearance, giving each knife a distinctive character.

  • Titanium: A lightweight, strong metal that adds a sleek, modern touch.

  • Aluminum: Lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and highly durable metal, making it easy to maintain over time.

  • Specialty materials (e.g., carbon fiber, bone, Mother of Pearl): Found in some Boker models for a blend of style, strength, and uniqueness.

Collaboration with Chad Nichols and Boker’s use of historical inspirations

One of Boker’s standout qualities is its connection to history through its materials. Each of the following knives, crafted in collaboration with world-renowned Damascus steel craftsman Chad Nichols, tells a story, blending the past with exceptional craftsmanship to create truly unique pieces. These are just a few examples of how Boker incorporates historical significance into its collections.

Nichols' Damascus steel is celebrated for its unique layering, strength, and beauty. Patterns like the Customized Ladder and intricate waves are crafted through a meticulous process, creating blades that are both visually striking and durable, enhancing Boker’s collections with distinct artistry.

Boker M4 Sherman EDC Flipper

The Boker M4 Sherman EDC is crafted from historical steel sourced from the iconic WWII Sherman tank, a key force in battles across Europe, North Africa, and the Pacific. Designed to replace the M3 Grant/Lee, the Sherman served from 1942 to 1957, supporting Allied forces worldwide.

This model features a unique MagnaCut blade with a backspacer forged from reclaimed Sherman tank materials, using Chad Nichols’ Customized Ladder Damascus pattern. Its Micarta handle, inspired by military camouflage, pays tribute to the tank's rugged design, while a deep carry clip adds everyday convenience.

Boker Plus P-51 Damascus Folder

Inspired by the North American P-51 Mustang, the Boker P-51 Folder by Steve Kelly captures the essence of this WWII classic. The 80-layer Damascus spearpoint blade, crafted by Chad Nichols from original P-51 components, includes a thumb hole design echoing the aircraft’s canopy, while the titanium handle reflects the Mustang’s riveted metal panels.

Features like the blue blade axle screw with a Silver Star emblem and red anodized screws add historical flair, and the titanium frame lock ensures durability. This collector’s piece comes in a premium nylon pouch.

Boker Tiger Damascus Folding Knife

Crafted from steel salvaged from the legendary WWII German Tiger I tank, the Boker Tiger-Damascus blends history with functionality. Its 80-layer Damascus blade, hand-forged by Chad Nichols, reflects the tank’s rugged armor.

The burlap Micarta handle offers comfort and grip, echoing the powerful design of the Tiger tank. With its limited production and historical materials, this collector’s piece showcases Boker’s artistry and resilience.

How do I clean my Boker knife?

To keep your knives in the best shape possible, regular cleaning and maintenance are essential. Some tips to keep in mind:

  • Use warm, soapy water: Clean the blade and handle using a soft cloth or sponge with warm, soapy water. Avoid soaking the knife, especially if it has wooden handles.

  • Rinse and dry immediately: Rinse off any soap residue with clean water, and dry the knife thoroughly with a soft cloth to prevent rust.

  • Lubricate the pivot: Apply a small drop of knife oil to the pivot point and blade to keep it opening smoothly and prevent rust.

  • Avoid the dishwasher: Always wash your Boker knife by hand. Dishwashers can damage the blade, handle, and any moving parts.

  • Store properly: Keep your knife in a dry place or in its sheath to prevent moisture exposure and maintain its sharpness.

What is the typical Boker knife price range?

Boker knives vary in price depending on the model, materials, and where they are made.

  • Boker Plus and Boker Magnum knives, which are often manufactured in China and Taiwan, tend to be more affordable, typically ranging from $30 to $150.

  • The Boker Manufaktur Solingen line, which includes premium models made in Germany, usually ranges from $100 to $500 or more, especially for models featuring high-end materials like Damascus steel.

  • Collector’s editions and limited releases, such as those with unique designs or rare materials, can exceed $500.
