Carter Cutlery handcrafts high-performance cutlery using time-honored, traditional Japanese bladesmithing techniques. Carter Cutlery operated from 1997 to 2005 at Tabaruzaka Park in Kumamoto, Japan, at which point Murray packed everything up into a 40’ container and fulfilled a lifelong personal dream to become a United States citizen.

Muteki knives are currently forged by highly trained, independent journeyman bladesmiths who have graduated from Murray’s rigorous three-month intensive Apprentice Program. Every step of the process is monitored and supervised by Murray personally and every blade must undergo extensive testing procedures. Only the blades passing these standards get stamped with the Muteki logo on the left side and the bladesmith’s personal stamp on the right side.
